1. PA Representative Greg Vitali, PA District 166, will share the latest environmental issues that are currently in review by the PA Legislature. Visit http://www.pahouse.com/vitali
2. Mr. Mark Swick will share what Kendall-Crosslands Communities (KCC), a retirement community in Kennett Square, is doing to reduce their carbon footprint by conserving energy and in planning for future reductions in their power use. The Board of Directors has also tasked the KCC Grounds Committee to develop and implement a Natural Resources Plan for the 300+ acres that are set aside as natural area. Working with residents, each KCC community has a plan that includes installation of native plant meadows and restoration of their forests. KCC is thinking ahead to the future by developing an additional 48 units at Kendal at Longwood using LEEDS building standards, installing native plants and managing storm water on site as much as possible. 3. Ms. Judy Nicholson Asselin, Westtown School’s first Sustainability Coordinator, will discuss the school’s efforts to become more sustainable. Westtown School adopted a formal Sustainability Mission Statement in 2008 to guide changes in the curriculum, in organizational practices, and in management of campus resources. Westtown is working to ensure that all new campus buildings are designed to meet LEED standards, that more dining hall food is purchased locally, and that energy efficiency and conservation efforts are adopted across the campus.
