PJM, Interconnection, a not-for-profit regional grid operator based in Valley Forge, PA, operates the high voltage transmission wires that power the 13 state Mid-Atlantic region. On Dec. 13th, Joseph Mulhern, Senior Engineer at PJM, will present the fundamentals of how PJM connects electric power sources to the consumer, making ‘real time’ adjustments in order to balance power generation with demand in an efficient and reliable manner.

Mr. Mulhern, PJM’s internal expert on photovoltaic solar generation, will also discuss how renewables and other low carbon technologies are being incorporated into the electrical grid.

Joseph Mulhern, Senior Engineer at PJM’s Generation & Transmissions, is currently focused on forecasting electricity demand and renewable generation output for grid operations purposes. Previously he has worked on gas-electric coordination, transmission outage analysis, and industry compliance initiatives. He has a B.S. in Physics and M.B.A. from Villanova University, and an M.Eng. in Energy Systems Engineering from Lehigh University.
